These first two songs we've heard now sound like a 90s pop punk band like New Found Glory, etc. I really don't like the production at all. Meh...

Nothing stood out to me at all. On second listen the best song on the album is Nothing Feels Good Anymore followed by In Remission.

I dunno I really like all the Greg songs. They are emotionally raw to the point of almost being ridiculous, though. When I saw the tracklist I was hoping that "Where Your Heartache Exists" and "Nothing Feels Good Anymore" and "I Don't Wanna Be an Asshole Anymore" were ironic, deliberately over-the-top titles but the songs are pretty straightforward. But I still like those songs. I can understand how someone would be let down after OTIP though.

Was not expecting the record to leak this early...I guess I have yet another album to check out tonight then but I'm not liking the things being said on here.

This record's production is awful. Songs ain't that good either. Feels like they are back to the sound of their previous records, and it's not a really good thing. Pretty bummed I have pre-ordered this.

The problem I'm having with this record is that it sounds like an early pop-punk record and the lyrical depth is simply not on par with OTIP.

There are some moments that are great, but the majority of it sounds pretty throwaway.

Very disappointed Sad

so i'm like 3 rounds in... and i'm not feeling it on any level :-/ As mentioned above the production is kinda eeeehhh, on the music-side i feel bored and on the lyrical-side its just not as good as OTIP. All in all for me this is just another generic (pop)punk album which could have been done by a lot of middle-class bands being around right now. Not saying its BAD but its nothing special at all.
In Remission is a fuckin damn good song, thought.

Oh, and why for gods sake do i have to go into new albumreleases with such high hopes everytime? ^^
doesn't get me anywhere than losing bands on the "i like - side" Sad

This actually excites me if they are really back to the sound of their previous records. Chamberlain Waits is my favorite Menzingers album. I am looking forward to this.

Anyone else think Transient Love's beginning sounds exactly like Killer Parties from the Hold Steady?

Seriously, there's been a couple of records I hated first then came to enjoy, but this one is just pure garbage from the first to the last note. Totaly pissed about this. What a waste. Wish I could cancel my pre-order.

Yeah those records that sound shitty initially but get better have a level of depth to them that takes time to appreciate, but with this one all I'm hearing is pop-punk from the mid 90s and lyrics that don't hit similar emotional depths as before... It sounds very superficial I suppose Sad Doesn't caputre the magic of OTIP

That acoustic track is the most disappointing of them all to me.

I too was also severely disappointed at first but after 4-5 listens it really started connecting. I don't think anything they would have put out would match my expectations (same goes for the new Manchester Orchestra Record). I'd put In Remission, Where Your Heartache Exists, Transient Love, Rodent, & When You Died up there with their best. Glad it isn't OTIP Pt 2 and can't wait to see how these tracks translate live. Webster Hall show should be fantastic. Hoping Captain, We're Sinking opens!

High Five second this (including the Manchester Orchestra thing)

I'm starting to really like "When You Died" - i hated it at first listen thought Smile

"Where Your Heartache exists" "I Don't wanne..." and "Nothing feels good anymore" get to a "well i can hum along the melodie and i think i enjoy it" point. In Remission is the standout single for me.

Yeah When You Died is pretty endearing, the others are, as Ryan put it, kinda throwaway sounding, like they were going for something I'm not really into. I still think I Don't Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore is super good

I don't think I'll like this album as much as their last one, or even Chamberlain Waits, but I think I'm gonna keep listening and eventually like it more than I do now. Dig up cool stuff with repeated listens.

I always thought Chamberlain Waits was a cool album title because I thought it was named after Wilt Chamberlain and Tom Waits, both of whom are total badasses

I've listened to the album a couple more times, and its starting to grow on me. I'm getting past the more pop-punk type production and starting to enjoy the songs more. I like Rodent, Where Your Heartache Exists, Transient Love, and Hearts Unknown a lot more now.
The album is an interesting mix with the intellectual and sometimes more poppy songs that Tom writes, and then Greg's songs which are always incredibly dramatic and heartfelt. Gives the album a mixed vibe

I will admit,

When You Died and the rest of the songs are growing on me. Still think this is their weakest release (besides ALITAOIT, which I could never get into).

Also, I still don't care for Tom's songs for whatever reason. I really don't know what it is. If it's the lyrics, his voice, just the general structure, just something makes them feel incredibly generic and boring.
