I think what I would like from a new Gaslight album would be, the similar types of things Brian wrote about on the 59 Sound, but with maybe for them to branch out some more instrument wise, maybe bring in piano for a certain song, but I like what they do with what they did some much on the 59 Sound that I wouldn't like them to change their sound drastically though.

yeah, i definitely noticed that about punk bands. i call it the upside down T chord progression. examples would be C G Am F, Am F C G, C Am G F, or any other variation of those chords grouped together like that (when power chords are formed, it looks like an upside down T). i'd say 85% of punk songs are played with that progression (MxPx's "Today Is In My Way" uses 3 different progressions of the same 4 chords, in that upside down T progression)

and i went ahead and grouped Gaslight's songs into their respective keys. being 4 years removed from learning music theory in band, i don't know the names of the keys, but all these songs use the same chords, so yeah. TGA has used only 5 different keys so far:

Key #1:
Boomboxes & Dictionaries
We Came To Dance
Drive
We're Getting a Divorce, You Keep the Diner
Red At Night
Old White Lincoln

Key #2:
I Coulda Been a Contender
1930
I'da Called You Woody, Joe
Angry Johnny & the Radio
Great Expectations
The '59 Sound
High Lonesome
Casanova, Baby!
Meet Me By the River's Edge
Once Upon a Time (doesn't really count, but whatever)

Key #3:
Wooderson
Red In the Morning
Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis?
Miles Davis & The Cool
The Patient Ferris Wheel
The Backseat

Key #4:
The Navesink Banks
Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
Here's Looking At You, Kid

Key #5:
Señor and the Queen
Say I Won't (Recognize)
Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts
Film Noir

If anyone is wondering, Key 2 is C, Key 3 is A, Key 4 is A minor and Key 5 is D, I believe. If I'm wrong, correct me, please.

Old White Lincoln belongs in Key 2 I'm pretty sure. It uses the same progression as Great Expectations

A chord progression is the order in which the chords of a song are played.

A
key of a song denotes which notes/chords can be played with the other
notes/chords in the song and sound correct (not out of pitch)

I love that Gaslight uses different tunings on some of their songs as well....

The
drop D gives em a versatility that some bands dont use when they simply
stick to power chords (which can become monotonous and un-inspired)

If you put a capo on the 2nd then you might as well play it in standard tuning

i know. i'm just incredibly lazy with tuning my guitar, so i leave my electric in D and my acoustic in standard

with it in D tuning, i never have to tune down, but i can tune up easily with the capo

Play a C shaped chord with the guitar tuned down to D. So your actually playing a B flat or A sharp, but your fingers are in the C position when you play in standard tuning.

yes, finally someone understands my tabs! when you play a Bb chord in D tuning, it looks like a C, but its pitch is actually a Bb, so that's what i put on the tab

I understand that, it just sounds right to me when I play a C chord in standard tuning. It's what I've always played. I'm also too lazy to tune down to D
