Mae makes me cry too. I LOVE THAT SONG.

Mae is a fantastic song. I'm still thinking about the meaning of the lines though

Which lines are you thinking about? I think this is one of Brian's best songs. So poetic! I love you

Those: "We work our fingers down to dust
And we wait for kingdom come
With the radio on"

and

"And still this city pumps it's aching heart
For one more drop of blood"

Maybe my english is not good enough or something like that, but I feel like can translate all of the lyrics..but sometimes I just don't get the sense

Okay, the fingers down to dust part, how I interpret it, is Brian is talking about how we work so hard all our lives until we die (wait for Kingdom Come), and we keep the radio on because music helps us through life. It's always there.

For the next part I'm not totally sure, but I think maybe he's talking about how some cities are just dying. They aren't thriving like they once were (and neither are we for living there), but they are still struggling to survive. I hope that makes sense. Smile

Wow, thanks. That would make sense..you mean that the Kingdom has the meaning of a life after death?

You're welcome! I love stuff like this. Smile

Yes, kingdom come is a reference from the Lord's Prayer: "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done..." It's talking about going to Heaven when you die, so I think Brian is using it as a reference for either just working until you die, or on a more philosophical, religious level, knowing that something better waits for him after he dies. Something better than the dying town he's from and working his fingers down to dust.

That's what I get from it. I love how Brian took that kind of heartland Bruce/John Mellencamp vibe and just turned it into something sooooo personal, beautiful, poetic, and breathtaking. I can see why he said it was one of his favorite songs that he's written.
It's definitely my favorite slower TGA song. Though I love Red at Night, I never had the same connection to HLAYK or Blue Jeans that other people have. But I totally identify with this Mae. I love you

I identify with so many of these songs, I don't know, it still amazes me. Red At Night is one of "my songs". The whole Irish name and an injury, the blessings and the curses, the blues, it's all so me. That song really struck a chord with me and I love it. In HLAYK, I can relate to the Brian character, but also Jane and Gail. I was on both sides of that story in high school. Mae is just everything. I love it so much, it's like it's part of my soul or something. I know that sounds really corny, but that's how much I love it.

Well, that's what I do. Red At Night has never been any bad song, but I just think the guitars of Here's Looking At You, Kid or Blue Jeans And White T-Shirts are more catchy

That's easy to do! I'm trying to stay away from the threads that cause arguing. If I'm not careful, I end up with a lot of posts because I'll fight with people, and that's not important. I try to keep my posts fun and not all aggressive and angry.

I can't really decide for one album... Handwritten and 59' Sound are those I see on the same level even if they offer really different styles/sounds

I know! I love that song! It's one of my favorites from '59 Sound. The guitar in the beginning is so awesome, and I love the lyrics. Especially "I still love Tom Petty songs and driving old men crazy." Yep! Very Happy

Honestly, I seriously LOVE every single Gaslight song. I think my least favorite is Red in the Morning, but I love that one so much too, it's hard to rank it last.
