PostSubject: My TGA CD collection   Mon Aug 06, 2012 10:19 am

Hey folks,
I collect CD's, but sadly my TGA collection is a bit pitiful; I only have the four studio albums. I was wondering what other physical CD's were out there to enhance my collection and where the best place to get them from is.
I'm looking for anything TGA, Brian Fallon related to be honest, I'm not picky, I just want as many TGA related cd's as I can get my hands on.
Thanks for your help!

e-bay and discogs seem to be the best places, now isn't a great time to be buying Gaslight stuff, prices are much higher than norm.

Sweet! Thank you so much for the link, I really appreciate it!

Will the prices drop back to normal soon or is this the new prices now and I decided to expand my collection at the wrong time?

It's just the usual mass hysteria of people over-paying when the band are at the forefront of news. 95% of the stuff will come back down to normal-ish prices, there will always be that 5% of stuff that will still crazy prices.

Just chip away at getting stuff for bargains, they are still out there.

Discogs is quality, you just need to check back here and there. Gaslight stuff thats rare gets snapped up quickly especially if you want rarer promo cd's.

I just by chance looked on a few weeks back and somebody had put the 7" Great Expectations and 59 Sound vinyls up. Needless to say I snapped them up for a combined 50 which I thought was a good price.

Honestly, if you're paying much more than around 15 each, then you're paying too much for them. I got them for 20 combined in the past few weeks.

Could have been lucky in the current climate to be honest. Another example is Pearl Jam posters, if you sell them after the gigs, you're going to at least 4 or 5 times the actual cost of the poster, just because some nutters MUST have them. Eventually, with more been put on sale, and the hype of the latest tour dying away, 9 times out 10 the prices will come down. Sure, a 2 Eddie Vedder sticker is fetching over 40 in the past few days...all because he just toured. Same with people dying, new albums, someone in the news...it will push prices up for a bit.

Unless I know it's uber rare, and the price hasn't dropped in a long time, I won't pay over 15-20 on a vinyl, just don't consider it to be worth it.

I'm pleased to see that there are others who consider CD collecting worthwhile; after all, you get all that lovely promo artwork.

So what do people consider the most desirable TGA CDs?

Quite like the jewel case THC promo I got at the weekend, haven't seen that one about, it's probably not that rare, but I like it.

Only really started to collect the promo cds and stuff, would like some more stuff from The '59 sound era, and anything before.

I completely agree; it baffles me that people don't buy cds. Its such an exciting feeling opening the packaging and looking at the artwork, reading the liner notes etc.

So I don't know if you can answer this or not, but whats a good price to pay for the demo's, EP''s, singles, etc. I have no experience buying this kind of stuff so any advice would be much appreciated!

Yeah I was thinking that as I was sending it. Problem is I don't really know what I'm asking, if that makes. I want to go and buy EP's, promo cd's, etc etc, and I just don't want to get ripped off I guess.

I have no concept of what the prices for these things are to be say whether its above, below, or at market value. I know thats no more specific than the first comment I sent, but its the best I have.

Sorry to be so vague.

The best way to start collecting in my opinion, other people might have better ways, is to get the cheap stuff first, un-rare presses etc. Then slowly start building your way backwards, picking up bargains, and stuff you are ready to splash out some cash on, soon you will find your collection building up. There's a fair amount of stuff that is common, and goes pretty cheap on ebay or discogs. Just take your time, try and do a bit of research, and see if you can afford it. Enjoy it, collecting stuff can be very rewarding.

trouble is that there is no real reliable pressing info for promos, although I have tried to get it

the only way to judge the rarity was to see how many appeared for sale at around the time they came out

'brucesboots' and I should put some work into ranking the promos by rarity

Very true, granted the promos like Bring It On, American Slang, and Behold The Hurricane are the cheap ones, and it shows. Probably a good place to start on promos, get them out of the way as such.

I suspect the hardest to find is the 2006 CD-R of the SoS demos. I only know of two, and both were acquired about two years ago for around $100 each. No idea what one might fetch now.

I remember one going for $70 not too long ago.

^ Wish I would have bucked up when I had the chance. Now there's too many big spenders that will be after this! $70 is a steal!

Pretty nice artwork on this promo:

indeed, but there is no knowing hwo rare this is; I have previously paid silly money for a promo when only two or so appeared, but a few months later eBay was awash with them; it all depends on whether you are prepared to risk losing out
