For me, it used to be THS over Lucero but now its the other way round. Don't get me wrong, I love THS and have met Craig Finn many a time and their music holds a special place in my heart but its Lucero and Two Cow at the top just now.

If you listen to these guys and don't feel something you have no heart.

I don't think THS and Lucero sound like each other, but there is something there that both bands have and make them strikingly similar. As for who I prefer I'll put it like this, THS are the band I listen to when I'm drunk and happy, and Lucero I listen to when I'm drunk and sad.

I think people consider Lucero and THS similar cause the last Lucero album has horns and keys and all.

To me, Lucero is ten times better than the Hold Steady. I listen to them everyday and I agree, if you don't like Lucero. You have no heart.

Just got back from their seattle show. Amazingly fantastic.

They played a few songs and then Ben essentially opened it up to requests, playing most of them (though some older stuff he apologized for not knowing) They knew most of the stuff though. It was a little annoying to have people shouting out songs all the time, but people were fairly civil about it. Made for a really good setlist that the crowd was fairly into (although not as much as I'dve expected but whatever, I had room to dance so I was happy). Brian was apparently sick but still muscled through it. Ben just has a passion on stage that few other musicians can capture. After the show I stayed around to shake my hand and thank him for the band, he actually owned up to not having time to play my suggestion (hey darling do you gamble) but I was like "The show was awesome I'm just happy for what you guys are doing" and certainly meant it, but it was another great touch that he even remembered. But like, part of the beauty of lucero is their library is so deep and without a lot of 'hits' that I feel like you could construct two twenty song setlists and both be stuff they might actually use at a show.

Totally reaffirms Lucero as a top 5 band for me. I just wish I knew some of their older stuff better. Not knowing the lyrics sucks =P

I've seen Lucero 9 or 10 times now. They are my favorite band ever. If you ever get a chance, go see Tim Barry open for Lucero. YOu won't be disappointed.

I'm surprised that I haven't checked out Lucero yet. Everyone who is fans of them are HUGE fans. Since I've been bigtime fans of Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Neil Young and others in the "alt.country/ No Depression" scene for what seems like light years.

I'll have to dig through their catalog and check it out.

if you like alt country stuff, listen to 'Tennessee' first. 'Nobody's Darlings' is my favorite though.

You made me overly excited that Lucero had somehow been added to the fest lineup. I donno if it could take that kind of awesomeness though. Razz

Paint it Black and the Souls are both playing fest Colin so go see Lucero. Also I don't see the potential conflict date looking at Lucero's and the soul's schedules.

When I saw them last month, I thought the new songs were the highlight of the night. Except for Women & Work, Liek Lightning, and Downtown, have any other new ones surfaced on the interwebs?

Agreed. All the new songs they played when I saw them last year sounded amazing. Probably my most anticipated album of the year (behind Gaslight of course Razz )

I always thought it was a little weird that you guys were so enthusiastic about it, now that I checked out the real Lucero it makes more sense.
