Any Tim Barry fans here?

He has a new album released today called "40'miler". With only one listen (as I just recieved the preorder/vinyl) it sounds pretty good! It's a little different than his prior albums.....offerring a bit more optimism and hope, while sounding more country/bluegrass influenced as oppossed to folk/americana, and also "40'miler" includes more sarcasm and humor in the lyrical content. There's more electric guitar and harmonica used on this album than in his previous ones. So far, my favorite tracks off of "40 Miler" seem to be "Wezeltown", "Amen", "40'miler", and "Shed Song", but as I continue to listen to the album that may very well change.

Btw, is anyone going to his record release show this Friday 4/13 at Asbury Lanes, Asbury Park NJ?

That's cool! I thought maybe I was the only Tim Barry fan on this forum......as I couldn't find a Tim Barry "topic/post" (unless I missed it).

Just curious, did you hear the entire album "40 Miler"? If so, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the album, especially in comparison to some of his previous solo albums.

Btw, I highly recommend purchasing one of the "40 Miler" vinyl options......I bought the "swamp green in bone white" color vinyl and it looks amazing!

I went to the show Friday night and it was pretty awesome. I really never saw myself going to these types of shows but Barry, Ragan, etc. are just so good!

It's cool how everyone fits in and has a similar style but each have their own unique traits that bring something different. Like they all fit in on the Revival Tour but actually are pretty differently lyrically, etc.

Sanam, I'm downloading Rivanna Junction. What do you think about 40 Miler? I listened to a few clips and they sounded great.

Have fun at the concert tonight! Very Happy

I love 40 Miler....I think Rivanna Junction is a good start for his solo stuff even tho its more depressing than 40 Miler.

I love everything this man has ever created. The amount of energy and passion he puts in his music and live shows is unbelievable.

I can tell that he has a ton of energy and passion for his music from the videos I've seen. I think I'll go ahead and download 40 Miler too. Smile

If I end up seeing him again, I'm wearing my heeled boots. I love he goes into the crowd a lot. Hate that he disappears from my view when he does! Being short sucks! Or maybe I can switch places with him. When he goes into the crowd, I'll go on stage so I can look down and see what he's doing. Yes. That sounds reasonable of me to expect.

In all seriousness, he is a super good time. He's got no airs about him at all. He totally pulled up people on stage and let them sing when I saw him last.

This is why I love Tim's work. He says what he means and means what he says. He may not write the best songs or be the best singer in the world but the honesty and passion comes through every time. I could listen to just Moving On Blue on repeat.

It's hard to see certain acts now because guys like Tim Barry have changed my standards of what to expect from a performer. Sincerity goes a long way. Perhaps much further than perfect hair/costumes/choreography.

Tim Barry’s show last night was amazing. Incredibly emotional. Shed a few tears on some songs. It was one of those shows, those nights, those moments that makes you really embrace what you have, at that exact moment.

God Damn it was beautiful.

oldgospelchoir - where'd you see him? I'm really digging 40 miler right now.

Anyone know in the beginning of the title track when he says he's talked to Brian, Hollie, and Frank, are they like Brian and Hollie Fallon, and Frank Turner? Or are the names coincidence?

I have listened to nothing but Rivanna Junction and 40 Miler since yesterday and I am in love with these albums. The passion and energy and pain that comes through these songs is unbelievable! I especially like Steel Road, Wait at Milano, Driver Pull, and 40 Miler. Thanks again for tellling me to listen to Wait at Milano, Sanam. It was just what I needed to hear. Smile

Edit: Oh, and the songs I have heard of his that mention Richmond and other areas in VA are dead on. He does a really good job of capturing the feel and the image of parts of this state. Even though I have lived here for a long time, I am by no means a Southerner, but it's still cool to hear someone sing about a place so familiar like that.

He's got me looking into Freight Hopping - it sounds so spiritual. I really wish I asked him about it at the Brooklyn show. He was such a nice guy and could probably offer up some good advice about doing it.
