Sink or Swim is their least best record.

Sure it's got some amazing songs like Wooderson, Drive and Angry Johnny, but overall I think it's a bit mediocre.

Wanna brawl it out?

Let's meet halfway, we'll brawl it out shirtless, my stereo blasting American Slang, your stereo blasting Sink or Swim.
But yeah that's my honest opinion.

dude, plug in Sink or Swim and go on a walk during the night...and then you will come to realize how good Sink or Swim is.

It's such a good album to listen to during the night.

Oh I've listened to it at night, but that doesn't change the fact that I think it's got some stuff that makes me bored or cringe.

Well I think the great thing about this band is that there is a song or album for almost everybody. And it's not just like 3 main songs. If you did a poll of this site (I think we did once?), you'd get a lot of different answers for favorite songs.

I think each album is great in their own aspect. It's just a question of time and mood.

First of all, everyone's opinion matters, that's the point of having a debate, so bring it on! Wink

Second, are you crazy?! '59 Sound was their best album by a mile, classic but refreshingly new, deep, relevant, catchy...I could go on forever. I love SoS and think that there are some fantastic songs (like what Harbortown said minus the cringing comment) and American Slang is amazing, especially The Diamond Church Street Choir, Queen of Lower Chelsea, Boxer, and Bring it On. I know that SATQ was just an EP, but it gave the world Blue Jeans and White T-Shirts, so let's not forget about Seņor either. I lean more toward rock than punk, so that's probably why SoS is not my absolute favorite.

I think it's interesting to see how the guys have evolved as musicians over the years and it's cool how they have a song or a whole album that will always be somebody's favorite, even if none of us can agree which one is best. For me, the albums are ranked:

1. '59 Sound
2. American Slang
3. Sink or Swim
4. Seņor and the Queen

In hindsight my comment should've been in the drunk thread, but I digress.

Sink or Swim will always be my fav. I just don't have the same relationship with American Slang or 59 Sound, mainly because I think they sound so similar to one another. I lean more to the punk rock side of things, and thats probably why I dig SoS more. I guess I was over-exaggerating when I said that AS, SatQ, and 59S should never have been recorded. Cause there are some legit gems on those records (Boxer, Orphans, Patient Ferris Wheel, Backseat....). I personally like the releases in the order that they came out.

Horrible Crowes is on the bottom of the list though, didn't even really like the record.

sink or swim is the only album that have 5 perfect songs together in order, I mean, contender-wooderson-dance-1930-navesink, I love that, but for me T59S is "the album".

This. I like all the albums almost equally, and it really depends on what I feel like listening at the time. And like the other albums, there really isn't a song on SoS that I wouldn't listen to (yes, I even like "Red in the Morning").

I love punk, but I don't think that's a very good argument because to me it sounds more like Paramore than punk at times.

The combination of drums, riffs and guitar doodles at the beginning of songs like 1930 and Red in the morning. Come on, that shit ain't cool. To me it sounds angsty and pubertal.

Sink Or Swim is my favorite CD of theirs and of everything I own right now, so I respectfully disagree. I tend to like heavier music so that could be why. Of course having said that I love Red At Night.

Some great songs on Sink or Swim, however being from a less punky background I much prefereed the sound they had on The 59' Sound. That was an album where I listened it for the first time and was totally blown away, Not a single skipper on the record. Amazing. On Sink or Swim just a couple songs let it down for me. One is We're getting a divorce, the other is Red in the morning.
