I've been listening to alot of Tom Waits lately and I'm amazed to find theres no thread for him already! Gotta be a few Waits fans about here?

Would definatley have Mule Varations, Closing Time and Raindogs in the archive of my desrt island discs!

Anyway main reason for posting was i found this amazing reading of Tom reciting Charles Bukoski's poem 'The Laughing Heart,' now i'd nver heard the poem or even of Bukoski before this but I'm sure some Waits fans will enjoy this reading. Absolutely compelling . . .

The heart of saturday night is one of his best record imo. I own the vinyl and it sounds fantastic.

This record is a perfect match for Elsie. Especially late at night. And lonely. drunken

Can anyone recommend any similar sounding Jazz artists or albums to Waits' Heart of Saturday Night?
