No Gods is really a pop album, so comparisons with Apologies' album are misplaced. It's actually a great pop album, because Sharks have a real ear for a cracking tune, which is also what makes it a great spring/summer album. This should really outsell all competitors in the same genre, but I'm not sure the marketing is up to spreading the word sufficiently.

The Clash comparison is also rather dated now. Instead there is a whole host of musical influences to be found here, though firmly from British rock/pop, bar for the first track, which almost sounds like it was produced to open the album to an American pop-punk audience (my only gripe).

As for magazine reviews, NME, Q, RockSound, Kerrang! and Big Cheese all gave it 4/5 (8/10).

Here was the Punknews review I saw:
http://www.punknews.org/review/11045

I agree- it's definitely pop, but not lame pop. When I talked to them in October James made me think they were going to do something different than what we know of them and so I was really excited/nervous to hear what he meant. It is different, but not enough to be alienating. I'm going to go listen to it on my walk now because it's pretty music for pretty weather.

I would call it Pop/Rock or Alternative Rock. I just don't like the term 'Pop' especially for a great guitar based rock band like Sharks. Pop to me is Katy Perry and Justin Bieber!

Yeah I suppose Pop has become almost an insult to bands these days but I still see Sharks as a Rock band.

How about it's rock with a pop flair to it.

Though if we're going to get technical "Pop" is short for "Popular" music which you could argue includes Slayer and Jay-Z.

Ooh and this one! I think I was being way too vague. Shoulda searched song titles. Embarassed

Anyway, I'm sure there's some tweaking in the studio as there probably is with all bands, but I don't think it's enough that it strays from what James actually sounds like. I'm sure it didn't involve the amount of cleanup they obviously do with someone like Tom DeLonge for example.

Heard him sing this one live and acoustic last week. Definitely not auto-tuned!

Just ordered a copy of the new album. I haven't heard any song off of it yet, so I'm excited to finally hear it!

Steps and numbers. Appleseed Cast reference?

And just to stay on topic... the Sharks record is really good.

There's definitely no Autotune used on the Sharks record. Just a really good production by Brian McTernan.

Apologies I have none are a pretty good band but their album is kinda of samey and not in the same league as Sharks.

Sharks are definitely going all the way.

They played a free acoustic record release show the other day in their hometown of Leamington Spa. I filmed this (sorry about the shakey cam... you can get the idea though).

I really like No Gods, they're playing quite local to me later today but I have no ride back after the show so I can't go which sucks. Haven't seen them since the last Gaslight UK tours.

I watched Sharks last night, apart from It All Relates and the song they played last, they were a little boring I must say.
