I'd say start with Let It Be. Their earlier stuff is mostly messy punk, but Let It Be is their masterpiece imo.

A Replacements reunion? I can't hardly wait! Oh but it's only a cover EP? I'm so unsatisfied.

(sorry I couldn't help it)

But I guess it doesn't have any of their music in it so I don't know if I really feel like watching it.

I havent seen the movie yet, but thats the whole point. Theres no music because the director didnt get the rights or anything like that. He wanted to it that way. Here's good quote about that:

Quote :
Because I had never done a doc before, but also because Iím not a fan of rock docs that are made after a band breaks up, especially if one of the guys is dead. So I didnít really want to do a typical rock doc, and I literally just came up with this thought that was just, ďI donít believe in God, but I believe in The ReplacementsĒ. How could I make people believe in The Replacements the same way they believe in God? I became obsessed with this idea, that this was a band that deserved an untraditional film. In their first music video they shot a stereo speaker for four minutes. They spat in the face of tradition every chance they got. So this was very much about spitting in the face of rock doc traditions. I never for a moment wanted to get music. I never wanted to talk to them. That was not the movie I set out to make.

And its been having some great reviews and there are some great people in it(Fallon, Tommy Ramone, Grant Hart, Craig Finn etc.). I know that most of these kinda documents where there is no music suck, but I dont think it would be the case in this one. If we want the music, we can always listen records...

Brian talks a lot about the Replacements and what they've meant to him.

If you're a 'mats fan or just simply love music, check out this documentary!

I reallyreally suggest all of you that likes The Replacements to watch this document once. Matter of a fact I suggest all of you that really passionately like music at all to watch this! Yea I kinda get bothered sometimes when they talk how good of a song is I Will Dare or that how they played Hootenanny the first time and fans booed at them or how Tommy Ramone played the solo on Kiss Me On The Bus...and then they dont play the songs at all! But, you know, with no songs theres so much more time for those great stories and all. You can listen those songs after the documentary is finished. And you will! I just realised that, because I've red that book (All Over But The Shouting), that the mentality of the book and this documentary is pretty much the same. Fans/other musicisians/roadies/producers/etcwhatever people telling stories. And still theres So many different stories about the band! And you can really see how much this drunken group of lunatics that made better songs than anyone really changed their lives!
One of them is Brian: "It does change your life. It makes you feel like, you know what? Im not what other kids, that are cool at school say. Im not a loser. I got there other people that feel the same way...and maybe I am a loser, but Im the best looking loser ever!". (or pretty close to something like that. hard to transcript from the video). One of the greatest things ever said by anybody ever.

I agree, great documentary for people that are already fans of the band. I did watch it with people who didn't know The Replacements well and they found it frustrating as they wanted to hear/see the band.

Definitely a great interview. I loved Brian's line about how rock critics are the bane of his existence.

Going to Chicago. I bought the ticket when the line up got announced for 90 bucks on a whimp a month ago and now I'm super excited. (not like the line up was bad before they added the 'Mates)

are you going to Denver?
also first time seeing this new text editor
