I still love Glenn Beck's anti-Springsteen awakening:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/12/glenn-beck-finally-gets-a_n_497360.html

Solidified Beck's status as "moron." First off, it took him this long to realize what the song is about. Secondly, since when is decrying poor treatment of troops un-American?

Omg, when I opened this thread I thought I was gonna be the only person who does not care for Bono/U2

Thankfully I was mistaken

Geez, a guy tries to use his wealth and influence for genuinely good causes and all of a sudden he's a dick. *Shrug* I like U2. I'm not a massive fan or anything, but still.

I have 'u218 singles', it seems alright.

I agree with whoever said that cause it's an Irish magazine it was brought up.

It's like coming out to Australia and getting asked about AC/DC.

agreed....I wasn't a fan until I saw them live 10 yrs ago. They're an outstanding live band. When you can command an audience of 13,000 to jump in unison to a song, not out of a request, but because the energy level is so high - it's a great experience. The venue felt like it was gonna lift up off the ground ..... that's a great band.

While i dont really like bono too much, early U2 is good. But i have an absolute new found respect for The Edge after seeing the doc It Might Get Loud. Really cool stuff.

Great film. I can't get into Led Zeppelin at all, but I must say, Jimmy Page seems like an awesome guy after watching it.

Also, Bono just had back surgery apparently so I'm hoping the concert I'm going to doesn't get cancelled.

Bono trying to help people doesn't make him a dick. Its that when he talks about helping those in need at press conferences wearing $5,000 dollar sunglasses, he gives off a very contradicting message, at least to me (I don't know the actual price, I just put a big number to infer that they are expensive. He could sell the clothes he had on his back at any given time and probably feed a third world country for a year himself). For me, it doesn't say "I'm trying to help people because they are less fortunate," so much as "Look at me, I'm helping people because I am more fortunate."

unless i missed it, no one called him a dick. taking peoples words that tend more towards "im not a fan" and turning into "he's a dick" almost implying that that was the original statement only warps the conversation and starts arguments.

besides, while he may have done good things, is that a reason to have to like him any more than some of the other reasons given for not liking him?

Bono talks about Africa a lot and gives to charity. Oh no! He's the anti-christ!

I've got nothing wrong with people giving to charity or whatever. But the fact so many people hate him/dislike him isn't a coincidence.

He's an egoitistical, hypocritical, 'I'm the best in the world, look at me, I do good in this world', arrogant git. Nothing wrong with doing good in this world but he don't half go on about it alot. He seems to think he's solving the world crisis and it's all up to him.

Re-read this, poster above me. Jlblue didn't really stretch anything. Just "egotistical, hypocritical, 'I'm the best in the world, look at me, I do good in this world' arrogant git" into "dick". So he may have actually lessened the words.

Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like I was trying to start arguments, or anything, but to me, the hate surrounding him seems silly. Frankly, I didn't know there was any hate for the guy until I opened this topic.

The way I see it, musicians are humans too, and humans have a tendency to spend a lot of money on silly things when they have the opportunity to do so. At least the guy tries to offset his spending by doing something.

Hoping this is sarcasm.

Anyways, I'm sure my tickets will be refunded.

I have terrible luck with concerts. Had tickets to 2 different shows this year, both have been cancelled. Bonnaroo better not catch on fire or anything.

bonnaroo was cancelled due to the promoters wanting to use the land for free range farming.

hope this is funny, not more annoying. just trying to make things a bit brighter.

Is it silly though?

As has been mentioned before, he (well, and U2) take on tour a ridiculous amount of transport and equipment, most of which only does harm to the environment, if he was so hell bent on doing good in this world you'd expect him to limit that first off. It's all well and good being able to do something and it's more than good that he does, but he also doesn't half like appaearing in the media meeting George Bush/G20 and showing what good he is doing, most celebrities/people manage to do it without their smarmy mugs on the front pages (or middle pages).

I won't go as far as blaming Bono for back problems...probably too much time spent picking his $1000 dollar bills off the floor.
