The Social Network was great. Saw Tron last night, it was alright but I couldn't help thinking it would make a good console game rather than a movie.

In other news, I have eaten far too much food over this festive period, along with far too much beer. I'm also gearing up to see Future of the Left again next week then I have 2-3 weeks of holidays which will be spent in exotic locations eating far too much food and drinking far too much beer.

Life is tough. Very Happy

It would have had character if I stomped on it whilst being drunk or if a hot naked chick had done it. Fuck, even if I dropped a bottle of whiskey on it I would've been ok with it. But my mom dropped a metal crappy object on it that holds her book collection together. I mean... come on =(

Yeah, it really was one of the better movies of this year. It wasnt really a history of of facebook just an dramatization of events that made a good story.

I found it to be a very heavy and interesting story

I don't know how many parts of the world are getting coverage of this, but Brisbane, Australia is flooding as we speak. Last night one of the biggest inland cities in the country, Toowoomba, was hit by an "inland tsunami" and 9 people are dead, 60+ unaccounted for. I was on holiday 1-2 hours south of the damage and just got home today, intense stuff.

Video of a bit of the event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYUpkPTcqPY

Brisbane River burst its banks today and parts of the CBD are starting to flood. Expected to get worse this week, and then I'm supposed to be flying to Brisbane for another holiday on the weekend. Hopefully I won't need a seaplane.

75% of the state of Queensland (where Brisbane is) is now declared as a 'disaster zone'. To make a comparison land-wise, apparently Queensland is roughly twice the size of Texas and five times the size of the UK. 90 people now missing according to some reports; people dying in the rapid flood waters, half of the confirmed deaths so far have been young children.

I have family in a suburb listed as 'in danger' (they're a fair distance from the river) and more family trapped in areas that should hopefully be safe. Lots of power sources being cut across the state and public transport also not running.

Sad

Family is all safe and dry, they will be fine. Watching the news is like a waking nightmare, so very depressing. Lots of it is melodramatic bullshit which really makes me angry. Hits hard though when I see places I've been to many times basically sunk.

One young lad died saving his younger brother's life from a car trapped in the flood. Another man died after ignoring a warning sign to try to save his father, he was sucked into a storm-water drain while battling the current.

Some photos from the flash flood in Toowoomba, an inland city.

Donate here: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html for those so inclined. A child on the news donated his entire life savings today, $12.00. It's funny how times of despair bring out waves (no pun intended) of national pride.

Not really surprising. I think I'm only posting about this because I've been there many times and have family there right now. If it was in Mozambique or something I probably wouldn't know about it. The death toll is only 15 but that's partially because no-one can access the worst hit areas yet. I can keep updating here if anyone's interested. That is until I go on holiday, right into a flooded city! Yikes.

The low death toll is a credit to the organisation of the local government and the structures in place to prevent a disaster such as this. Similar disasters in places like Pakistan have been much more severe death-wise. Most of the deaths here will be in the inland areas where the flash flooding occurred and there was no time to evacuate. The central business district in Brisbane has had only 1 or 2 fatalities because they had more time to evacuate, but the economic damage will be in the billions.

Yesterday there was reports and images of 'bull sharks' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_shark) swimming down suburban streets that are nowhere near the river or ocean. Scary stuff.

Newspapers and television shows in the Netherlands do show daily updates on the Australian situation, quite remarkable actually if that's unique.

Good luck =/

To balance the scary stuff, the following is a picture from twitter (search #qldfloods for more) showing just what many Australians are like. As soon as something bad hits, thousands jumps out with a helping hand. The political leaders have had to ask people to stop donating material goods as they already have too many, they only want financial assistance.

At least 5 kangaroos, saved by a man quite possibly risking his life in a tin boat.
