I disagree... this reminds me of the scene in We Are Never Going Home with the sleazy agent.

TGA is great because four guys have come together and become much more than the sum of their parts.

Yeah, I agree kind of too. But later or just in some downtime or something to get a few by him solo and acoustic would be really awesome I think. I mean the acoustic set on that radio station was amazing.

And I never want this to happen but if they ever broke up, he could def. make it on his own. Thats all.

Well yeah, I agree. A lot of the time people focus on the frontman of a band and ignore what everyone else brings to the equation. But I don't think there's anything wrong with being in a band and doing your own thing at the same time. I'm not thinking "YO BRIAN DITCH THESE LOSERS, THEY'RE JUST DEAD WEIGHT," I'm thinking, hey it might be cool if he did some stripped down songs on his own sometime. I mean for instance, I like Rage Against the Machine, but I also like Tom Morello's solo project--and let's face it, those songs would not make good Rage songs.

The band has only been around for what, two years now, way too soon for anything solo. Give him another at least two years, get the band and his name out there and it would make much more sense. It's hard for a person to do anything solo and would be a huge waste of money on pressing things when most people at this point would wonder who this random guy is. Obviously the band is going somewhere, so once that happens, do a solo album and it would do ten times better than it would at this point. I think what we really need is an acoustic EP, something like the nirvana acoustic set with drums and everything, now that would be good!

Billy, I think you hit the nail on the head. It is easy for fans to focus on the front man when you consider that most fans are like me:

1. I can't play an instrument other than Guitar Hero
2. I don't understand music theory (what the hell is 5/4 time signature?)
3. I don't know what a C-Sharp sounds like
4. I know what I like

because of these 4 things, the only part I can really relate to is the singing, so it is easy to focus on the singer as being the key to a band, when really it is about the band being greater than the sum of their parts.

There have been many bands where I thought the front man was something special only to realize through their side projects/solo work that they suck (System of a Down, I am thinking of you right now).

And yet, sometimes they're great, like with Chris McCaughan, Tim Barry, Chuck Ragan, and even Greg Graffin.

I think he should've jumped on the Revival Tour, like Chris Wollard, Tom Gabel, and McCaughan did for a few dates. That would make a pretty sick show.

Don't forget Tim Armstrong, his solo cd was my 2nd favorite release of 2007

True, forgot about him.

And regardless, when you look at the songs that Brian has performed or written acoustically ("The Navesink Banks," "Red At Night," "Drive," "1930," "Boomboxes & Dictionaries," "I Coulda Been A Contender," "Red In the Morning," "I'da Called You Woody, Joe," "High Lonesome," "The '59 Sound," "Miles Davis & The Cool," "Great Expectations," and "The Backseat") all have been pretty incredible. I think he could pull it off well. If he did an acoustic version of 1930 the way he did it in that youtube video, it would be totally worth it.

I do think that almost all TGA songs could be transferred into an amazing acoustic set... I think MTV needs to bring back the unplugged series*

*for those of you too young to remember, MTV used to play music, and for awhile they used to have bands come on and play an entire set on acoustic instruments. Eric Clapton, Nirvana and Sheryl Crow all did wonderful sets

It's sad that some people might not remember MTV Unplugged

And some other artists that have done pretty well solo:

Bruce Springsteen (3 records)
Dan Potthast (3 records)
Joey Cape (first full length coming out this september)
Tony Sly
Jason DeVore
Justin Sane
Tom Gabel (probably coming out with a solo record)

And on the topic of people that should do acoustic albums, Tomas Kalnoky, Greg Attonito, and Mike McColgan should jump on this bandwagon too.

Those videos are great. It made me want to punch someone when kids were singing "Point Counterpoint" while he was trying to play something else though...shit's rude.

If Brian ever went solo, it would turn out being a soul album, since that is what he's most influenced by.

I remember seeing an interview of him where he was like "Alex Rosamilia's favorite band is the Clash, and the other two are really into hardcore. All I listen to is like 50's soul, so if I made this album by myself it would probably be strictly soul"

I think it would be pretty sweet though.

When Alex R and I were hanging out in Berlin a clash song came on and of course we started talking about "I'da Called You Woody, Joe" and then he said "I know this sounds dorky, but not a day goes by that I don't think about the Clash"

Yeah, he loves the Clash

Nothing's for sure, but he's been playing a bunch of solo acoustic shows, and he's been playing at least 9 new songs.
