PostSubject: Biffy Clyro   Tue Jan 05, 2010 8:11 pm

I've wondered a lot that noone else started to talk about them, especially because there is so many folks from the u.k. around here.

well, biffy are besides a few other among my favourite bands since i first discovered them about 2 years ago through "the vertigo of bliss". they really have grown on me lot.
releasing OR in 2009 there were many discussions saying they were selling out and so on. i like all their records and don't think their music changed because they wanted to earn more cash and after already having heard their new songs live i have to confirm that you can call them anything but mainstream, but that's just my opinion.

i know that in the u.k. they are traded as the next big thing but i guess they are not very popular outside greatbritain, at least it's so in middle-europe.

love their songs, lots of them are very epic and can say the same thing bout lots of their videos

fav album: infinity land, blackened sky, puzzle, OR, VOB,
fav songs: christopher's rives, stars and shites, jaggy shake, mountains a.a.l.m.

oh and have seen them 3 times and everytims was better, they are ranked second place among my top live bands ever.

I'm pleased there is a Biffy Clyro thread already.

I just got their latest album, 'Only Revolutions', which is a great listen, even if the lyrics are on the wacky side (but not juvenile-idiotic, as on the latest Green Day album).

I only discovered them when 'Puzzle' came out, and I must admit it's the only other album of their I have.

There was an interview with Benny during the UK festival season, and it was the main band he singled out when asked whether he'd discovered anyone new at the festivals.

i think they are by a long way the best British band at the moment , ive liked everything they have released and they manage to actually get away with being a rock band without being to proggy(like muse). We need more good guitar based bands.

hey guys, glad finally someone wrote an answer.

@ steady now: you should totally get their other records, compared to their older stuff, the lyrics from puzzle and OR are much more straight.
mountains and many of horror are my fav songs on OR, many of horror is like the most epic ballad i ever heard. and the first half of the album really kicks ass

most of the lyrics tell us about simon dealing with his wife.

"living is a problem because everything dies" is one of the best album-openers i know

i you wanna listen to some of their other stuff, take a listen to "infinity land", it's quite the opposite of puzzle and and or. the lyrics are as you called them "wacky", there's a huge variation between and in their songs and also lots of screaming parts, which simon does really well.

oh and if you ever get to see them live, take advantage of that opportunity (can't be that hard in britain where they are called the next big thing) as i already said, they are second best live band i ever got to see.

Does the name actually mean anything? Not to sound like a moron, but maybe it's British slang? Cause otherwise it just sounds like a goofy name, I guess from the name alone it didn't sound like a band I thought I'd enjoy, so never bothered.

@ steph
actually there is no clear etymologic info about biffys name, you can look for the possibilities on wikipedia.

i just totally can recommend you this band steph, i think you should at least give them a listen, that would already make me happy.

i always try to spread my favourite bands (lots of them not known by anyone here in europe, some don't ever leave the states or their homecountry, some whose records can not be bought via internet and all other stuff) here in austria.

i have to state again, that the average austrian taste in music can be discribes as "whatever come out of the radio" or "anything that's good for shaking your booty", so i am really sad sometimes, cause i do not find few persons with the same taste in music as me.

already even thought about going to the states for music and concert holidays (my grandmom used to live in jersey and i love the people over there and i would really like to see oregon and washington) or going to britain for post graduate.

In an interview on MTV (he sounded like he was making it up) Simon Neill said that he got out the shower so his feet were wet, he stood on some magazines on his floor and the print transferred to his foot ,and when he looked at his foot the remaining letters were Biffy Clyro apparently .

Ill have a listen and let you know what I think about Biffy Clyro. I think the tendency to "like whatever comes out of the radio" is probably common anywhere. You have to really love music and discover more original music somehow and be driven to seek it out on your own, and some (a lot?) of people enjoy the top 40 kinda stuff. So I'm guessing it's not just in Austria...Oh, and Oregon is gorgeous. I lived there for a summer & my mom has lived there for a few years, so I get to visit every once in awhile. Portland is a really cool town, very artsy in general, everything is green and rainy. Damn, now I wanna go visit again!

@ steph

here's list with some songs you can listen to on youtube, i took 2 from every album they brought out, except for the latest one from which i picked 3 songs cause i think it's the best one for new possible biffy fans.

Note: i totally love biffy ever since i got to know them. each album has got it's own sound, their songs are often very epic and emotional.
i hope you'll enjoy them and maybe one day you'll be a fan.

I think Puzzle is okay but Blackened Sky is by far my fave (still need to check out Only Revolutions)

I saw them live at Reading festival as well and while they where okay I dont think they festival slot suited them and Simon seemed wasted I would like to see their own headline show though as I have heard great things.

Only Revolutions is still quite a good album, but if you want to get to know real biffy try infinity land or the vertigo of bliss

I am really impressed with their new album, Opposites (it's a double album; don't fall for the 14 track selection on 1 CD that most stores seem to carry)

I think it's pretty bland to be honest. There are some great tracks, but a lot of filler.

I agree with this really I think that sums Biffy Clyro up for me. They have a handful of really great tracks but never enough to make me want to buy a whole album of theirs. Off this album I like Biblical, Pocket and Accident Without Emergency. That's about it really.
