Dunno if any of the British posters have seen the hype yet, but there is a Facebook campaign to keep the lastest Xfactor Cash cow off the UK number one spot this year. Real Music loving people are going out en masse and buying the 1992 single Killing in the Name of by Rage Against the Machine. If you look it up on google....news reports would suggest that this is actually a possible reality.

So fans of music, please help keep the humongulous mongoloids off number one this Christmas and strike a blow for true heartfelt music.

Buy this off itunes for like 99p, It will be worth it just to piss off that satanic cocksucker Simon Cowell.

Thanks For your time.

Jeff Buckley got to #2 last year in a similar campaign. I think it's pretty funny...

Funny idea, but if they actually expect enough people to participate and make it happen, I love it.

I wonder how well this is doing, only got a few more hours until votes/purchases stop counting to the total.

Last I head X-Factor had the momentum, serverley hope not, the strange thing is, all/most of the middle aged women probably wonder whats so wrong with it (x-factor that is).

I know this is weird (my signature is a quote from RATM) but I hate "Killing In The Name". I have always felt that KITN (Kitten!?!) lacked the importance that the other songs had and I thought for a band that fought so hard to be anti-capitalist that this song was just plain old selling out to the lowest common denominator! (similar to Wu-Tang's "Wu-Tang Clan ain't nutin' to fuck wit")

anger is a gift.

Damn, can't think of the name, but the song that had the video of RATM playing in New York at the stock exchange and stuff was my favorite. At least I think I'm remembering it right.

I hear yah. On a personal note im just board of hearing the song its so overplayed they have some killer riffs (Calm like a Bomb, Vietnow etc) which are far more powerful and the lyrics on there other songs have far more potency.

Early reports are that Rage have won it.

I do like the song, but it's not really about the quality of the song, more so the public fighting for unmanufacturered music and the given right to be christmas no.1

Anyone else singing what X-factor is would be nowhere in the charts. I do wonder what next years campaign will be.

Gaslight Anthem for christmas number 1?

Rage is christmas number one.

I actually genuinely hope Cowell and co. are in tears, UK chart over last 20 years:

1984 Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
1985 Shakin' Stevens "Merry Christmas Everyone"
1986 Jackie Wilson "Reet Petite"
1987 Pet Shop Boys "Always on My Mind"
1988 Cliff Richard "Mistletoe and Wine"
1989 Band Aid II "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
1990 Cliff Richard "Saviour's Day"
1991 Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" / "These Are the Days of Our Lives"
1992 Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love You"
1993 Mr Blobby "Mr Blobby"
1994 East 17 "Stay Another Day"
1995 Michael Jackson "Earth Song"
1996 Spice Girls "2 Become 1"
1997 Spice Girls "Too Much"
1998 Spice Girls "Goodbye"
1999 Westlife "I Have A Dream" / "Seasons in the Sun"
2000 Bob The Builder "Can We Fix It?"
2001 Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman "Somethin' Stupid"
2002 Girls Aloud "Sound of the Underground"
2003 Michael Andrews & Gary Jules "Mad World"
2004 Band Aid 20 "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
2005 Shayne Ward "That's My Goal"
2006 Leona Lewis "A Moment Like This"
2007 Leon Jackson "When You Believe"
2008 Alexandra Burke "Hallelujah"

---

You can pretty much pick out the year christmas number 1 became meaningless.

Doubt Cowell is crying because Rage is still on his label. At least that's what I've heard.

Not gonna go mad into it, because it's too complicated to explain, but thjey're on different subsidaries of Sony. Cowell doesn't stand to make anything form Rage's scuccess unless Sony decide to treat him to a bonus.

Amazing, it worked! I'm not really 100% behind the concept as far as "sticking it to the man" is concerned, considering that it just netted Sony a lot more money in the end.
Still, I think it's a cool demonstration of the power of the internet and communication in mobilizing people, even in things like controlling the best-selling charts.

Its not about sticking it to the man. Its a big two finger salute to xfactor showing them that they can no longer go on having a strangle hold on the cahrts with there manufactured pop drivel. Its a big fuck you to manufactured pop music and a statement that we will no longer just be spoon fed shit music.

Also the sony thing is somewhat irrelevant Rage are giving their profits to Shelter while Simon Cowl is just gonna shit on a huge pile of cash. Now which of these sends a more positive christmas message.

This article perhaps best sums it up
