Thought the killers started well, got better and then went majorly downhill.

Sure it's evolving their style, nothing wrong with that I just preffered their first 2 albums, Sams Town I thought was best.

Agreed about the mainstream haters though, same thing with Green Day, evoles sound, becomes mainstream and all of a sudden there's a queue of haters around the block.

Oh, and TGA sound nothing alike with the Killers, not sure how anyone made that connection personally, the voice is the only similarity for me and thats only on rare occasions.

Agreed. First 2 albums were money. Fell off after that.

I saw them during their Hot Fuss tour back in 2003 (? 2004?)....they were so so live, but pretty new so realize they may have been trying to get used to the grind and such.

I think "We did it when we were young" could pass as a comparison to The Killers, but other than that...not at all.

I loved their last album, and I think this one should be great.

New song sounds alright on the first listen, didn't jump out at me though tbh

For me Sams Town is a masterpiece, so I'm hoping for an album in that mould Smile

I will be in heaven if they make anything comparable to Sam's Town. One of the only cd's I like more than The '59 Sound.

What I love about The Killers is they used to be so average live, but if you watch their Live At The Royal Albert Hall DVD (which is awesome by the way), they are explosive and really at the top of their game. Flowers commented that touring Sams Town made them a tighter band and it definitely shows there.

Oh lol. FIgured it was something like that. The Killers really are one of those bands you either completely love or can't stand at all (as said by others in this topic lol).

Particularly this verse:

Quote :
We used to look at the stars and confess our dreams
Hold each other to the morning light
We used to laugh, now we only fight
Baby are you lonesome now?

and obviously this:
Quote :
I turn the engine over and my body just comes alive and we all just runaway

That's what I always loved about The Killers, their lyrics tell a story (Dustland Fairytale, Runaways, Mr. Brightside) and that's what I love about TGA and Brian's lyrics. I feel like each album or song has a story with characters/settings/imagery that we as fans have come to know/become attached to.

...I just took this in a different direction but wharves haha

I'm not crazy about the "Runaways" track. It sounds like his voice is different......anyone else think so? I guess I've never been much of a Killer's fan to begin with though. I have to admit, I am a little curious to hear their upcoming album, partially because Brendan O'brien is producing it, but more so, its because of the Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci and the crazy fan that he's turned me into since the release of his solo project/album (called "Big Talk") over the past year. I think Ronnie's solo album is way better than any Killers material that I've heard. The album was said to have a sound similar to Bruce Springsteen, the Cars, Tom Petty, and other 80's rock. Here's a video of his second single.

Yeah, that is interesting Brendan O'brien is producing it. It will be fun to see how it turns out. Wonder if it will have any similarities to Gaslight's record or other stuff he's produced... I never listened to Vannucci's stuff. Thanks for posting that link. That's a good song! I definitely enjoyed it. Makes me wanna check out some of his other stuff!

That's cool......glad you enjoyed it! You can check out other songs on youtube. Personally, I think it's one of the best albums of the last few years that no one's ever heard of. Everyone I've turned on to it ends up loving it though! It ended up being the soundtrack to my 2011 summer. The funny thing is, I'm not even big on the killers and didn't even know who Big Talk/Ronnie Vannucci was, but I got on Epitaph's website to preorder Frank Turner's new album and happenned to see Big Talk, decided to look it up and heard the first single "Getaways" and that was enough for me to take a chance on buying the album.......and I'm so glad I did! There's nothing better than accidentally finding a new band completely out of the blue that you end up falling in love with, supporting, and turns out to be a major influence in your life.

I'm a huge Killers fan, but wasn't impressed by either solo project. So while I'm excited for Battle Born, I'm a little nervous too... Wasn't a big fan of Runaways initially but it's growing on me slowly.
